This characteristic central “quartiere” lies to the south of the cathedral. Noted as the birthplace of Dante, it is also home to many restaurants offering local cuisine.
Why is it primed for growth?
The historic narrow streets offer atmosphere in abundance. With few grand palazzos left for redevelopment in the heart of the city, when they do come to the market they usually sell very quickly.
My favourite bits:
The church of Buonimi di San Martino dates back to AD986 and is named for the 12 good men who met there to perform charitable deeds for the needy, a tradition that continues today. This tiny gem, dwarfed by the tall, narrow streets, contains two important artworks by Verrocchio and Ghirlandaio and has a charity box inlaid in the façade.

One thing the locals like to keep secret:
Next to the impressive doors of the Palazzo Portinari Salviati and behind a tiny shop selling sunglasses lies one of the most important photographic archives in the world. Foto Locchi is a treasure trove of images of the city and its people, dating back to 1934.
