Next Neighbourhoods: Cambie Corridor, Oakridge, Vancouver, Canada

Kevin Skipworth from Dexter Realty tells us why the the Cambie Corridor is going to be the next up and coming neighbourhood. With plenty of green space and a Farmers Market, the area offers up a mix of urban and rural living

Describe the area

A 20-minute drive from Vancouver International Airport and located close to South Vancouver, Cambie Corridor’s traditional detached family homes are making way for new contemporary townhouses, low-rise and high-rise apartments as the city council embarks on a multi-billion dollar redevelopment with an upmarket mall taking centre stage.

Why is the area up and coming?

The area is on the subway line (Canada Line & SkyTrain) that runs from Vancouver International Airport to downtown and on transit routes to the University of British Columbia to the west of the city. It is currently less densely developed than other neighbourhoods.

My favourite bits

Residents like to take advantage of the 132-acre Queen Elizabeth Park, with its arboretum and the Bloedel Conservatory. The Farmers Market at Riley Park is a favoured spot for lunch and there is always the added bonus of the Nat Bailey Stadium, home to the Vancouver Canadians baseball team which is located alongside.

Who’s buying?

The area attracts buyers from Hong Kong and mainland China (whether recent migrants or second, third or more generations) as well as local buyers downsizing from single family homes and wanting a residence that requires less maintenance and complements their changing lifestyle.

What will my money buy me?

Budget C$2 million for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom penthouse in Cambie Street with views across the city whilst C$5 million will secure a four-bedroom detached family home in the desirable King Edward Avenue.
