Living in the French Alps

One of the most magnificent mountain ranges in Europe, the Alps are home to many iconic peaks: the Matterhorn, the Jungfrau and the Eiger. The highest of the entire system is the Mont Blanc, which presides over the Chamonix Valley - the birth place of the Winter Olympics and one of the world's most famous sporting playgrounds.

Living in, or owning a second home in the Alps will appeal directly to active people and families but the Alps also have a gentler side to discover, one that is steeped in vibrant culture and year-round natural beauty.

Types of Property in the Alps

• Traditional farmhouse, • Luxury chalet, • Ski-in/ski-out apartments, • Lakeside villa, • Town house, • Village property

The Alps are extremely well-connected, most of the main towns and resorts of the Haute Savoie are little more than one hour’s drive from Geneva International Airport. Frequent trains connect smaller resorts and villages. During the summer more remote areas become accessible by car.

Expect abundant snow during the winter months. When the snow melts in spring the Alps become a paradise for walkers and nature lovers. Summers are short and warm with temperatures often reaching 30°C. Autumn (perhaps the Alps best kept secret) offers crystal clear skies and warm weather stretching well into October.
