Next Neighbourhoods 2021: Pompano Beach, Florida, United States

This quintessential exclusive Florida beach town offers a mix of serenity, sophistication and action, just a short ride from Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton.

A boaters’ paradise, with direct ocean access from the world-famous Hillsboro inlet, the city is also known for its excellent fishing, diving and snorkelling, and boasts some of the finest beaches on Florida’s east coast. The expansive beachside promenade features canopied walkways, play areas and outdoor gyms. Pompano also has its own private airport, 30 minutes from Fort Lauderdale International Airport and 40 minutes from Palm Beach International Airport.

Why is it primed for growth?

With strong demand from north-east buyers and great value waterfront property, Pompano Beach is entering a new and exciting renaissance period. New developments include a creative arts district and the completion of the Pompano Beach Cultural Center.

Pompano Beach Fishing Village is a newly opened walkable beachfront development that forms part of a larger project including dune restoration and new beach pavilions. Three new restaurants on the beach offer a relaxing dining experience as you hear the waves crashing on the sand. Put all this together and you have a beachside community primed for growth and development well into the future.

My favourite bits:

Seeing the historic Hillboro Lighthouse illuminate the Pompano coastline, the incredible surfing and paddleboarding and free yoga classes directly on the ocean. The annual Pompano Beach Seafood Festival is a highlight, while one of the most anticipated events of the year is the Pompano Beach Holiday Boat Parade where local yachts decorate their vessels with holiday lights and cruise up and down the intracoastal waterway as local residents host parties to toast the holiday season.

What will my money buy me?

At Solemar, a new oceanfront development, a two-bedroom 2,000 sq ft residence with ocean-facing terraces starts at US$1.4 million, while a larger three-bedroom residence starts at US$1.8 million.

One thing the locals like to keep secret:

“Foodie heaven” Café Maxx is Pompano Beach’s fine dining destination of choice for power-brokers and gourmands. Try the signature caviar pie. For something a bit more casual, the family-owned Nauti Dawg, located right on the water, offers live music and the freshest local seafood.
