Describe the area
Flanked by the Constantia wine lands, Kenilworth is one of Cape Town’s southern suburbs, with roads lined with established trees and shrubs. It offers a blend of large historic homes with extensive gardens and new apartment developments.
Why is the area up and coming?
With commercial redevelopment spilling over from the business district of neighbouring Claremont, Kenilworth is fast becoming a thriving business district in its own right. Major retailers and business are investing in the area by improving existing commercial buildings as well as building new mixed-use commercial developments.
My favourite bits
Nestled in central residential Kenilworth within the grounds of a remarkable historic estate are the acclaimed Stellenberg Gardens. There are 16 different sections to these incredibly beautiful gardens, which is open to the public just once a year, each with their own character and name.
Who’s buying?
This diverse suburb attracts mostly local buyers, from young professionals to expanding families due to its varied accommodation offering, proximity to excellent schools and well established amenities.
What will my money buy me?
R2 million will get you a newly built one-bedroom apartment or a spacious pre-1970s two-bedroom apartment. Smaller three-bedroom freestanding homes cost from R3.5 million to R5 million, while those with between R7 million and R15 million to spend can take their pick from some amazing larger houses with extensive gardens.
