Central London: Office environment and worker satisfaction

There has been much made of the innovative and interesting fit-outs employed by some of London’s TMT firms to improve worker satisfaction and productivity.
However, a survey published this week found that 86% of UK adults who work in an office said that ‘fun features’ had no specific value to their working life, while 71% said that they wanted more space in their office and believed it could be achieved by removing non-essential items.
The survey also found that 79% of workers surveyed said that reliable and modern technology is more important than off-the-wall office design and amenities.

While it is always wise not to place too much importance on such surveys, it is worth noting that none of the larger tech companies such as Google, Apple, Facebook, Expedia and Twitter appeared on the Sunday Times’ Best Companies To Work For list. Food for thought.
