Évian les Bains

Évian les Bains Area Guide

Lake Geneva, crescent-shaped and an impressive 73km long, 14km wide and 310m deep is shared between France and Switzerland. On the French part of the lake the spa resort of Évian-les-Bains, the bustling and lakefront town of Thonon-les-Bains along with the impossibly pretty village of Yvoire, are the main areas of interest.

The property in Évian-les-bain has fine examples of Belle Époque, Art Nouveau, colonial-style and Neo-Byzantine architecture define the hills and the lakeshore of this undeniably grand and dignified region. All of which contrast pleasingly with the traditional Alpine chalets, common in the foothills of the Chablais mountains.

Working with our Évian-les-Bains associate, Knight Frank provides some of the very best property along the French side of the lake:

Living in Évian les Bains

Évian les Bains is, without doubt, the leading French spa resort on Lake Geneva. Though famous for the curative properties of its spring water, the main social focus of the town is the waterfront. Colourful flowerbeds and immaculately clipped hedges adorn the elegant lakeside strip.

Its proximity to Geneva makes it a convenient base from which to work or for many who choose to live in France but work in Geneva. The lifestyle opportunities are varied and year-round, Evian is a summer resort in a part of the world famous for its world-class winter sports.

The main cultural centre of Evian today is the Palais Lumière, a sumptuous example of Belle Époque architecture. Built as a pump room in 1902, adorned with gorgeous stained glass and Art Nouveau frescos, it now hosts regular exhibitions.

The French schools in Évian maintain superb reputations added to which, a couple of private schools in Geneva offer transport to students living in Evian and nearby Thonon. Weekly boarding at schools in Lausanne is also available.

In the winter Évian has easy access to all the famous alpine winter sports playgrounds which offer a wide variety of sports including alpine and cross-country skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing. The resorts of Bernex and Thollon-les-Mémises are only a few kilometres from the lake, whilst the resorts of Megève (96km), Châtel (39km), Morzine-Avoriaz (52km), Les Gets (43km) and Morgins (43km) are all a part of the Portes du Soleil Franco-Swiss ski area.

In the summer boating, canoeing, hiking and golf (including the women’s professional golf tournament The Évian Championship) take centre stage.
