_Pantone chooses yellow and gray as the colours of 2021
2021's Colour of the Year choice, inspired by the global pandemic, uncertainty and mankind's resilience, is a striking pairing of Ultimate Gray, 'steady' and 'rock solid' and Illuminating, an 'optimistic' hue of yellow. Together they represent 'light at the end of the tunnel' that will help people 'fortify themselves with energy, clarity and hope'.
According to Pantone's Exective Director Beatrice Eiseman, the parial is "a message of happiness supported by fortitude and resilience" and that "the combination of PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating is aspirational and gives hope".
The duo is also described as “practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic".

Pantone's chosen colours are said to anticipate what's going to happen while capturing global sentiment; the colour consultant's choice for 2020 was 'Classic Blue'.
For over 20 years, Pantone’s Color of the Year has influence interior design and product purchasing - from front doors to throw cushions and bedroom walls to fashion, industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design.
The events of 2020 has led other companies to choose optimistic shades as their 2021 colours of the year.
Paint brand Dulux recently unveiled a "reassuring" earthy beige hue called 'Brave Ground' as its colour of the year for 2021.
According to the Dulux website the colour is supposed to reflect "the strength we can draw from nature, our growing desire to align more with the planet and looking towards the future".
And if a dose 'fortitude, resilience and happiness' is the shot in the arm that we all need in 2021, you'll find us reaching for the Illuminating Yellows and Brave Grounds as soon as the clock strikes midnight.
