_International property of the week: Provencal Living

A charming nine-bedroom estate for sale in St Paul de Vence, Alpes-Maritimes, Cote D'Azur, France, with an asking price of €8,250,000
August 02, 2019

Hollywood glamour has been an essential part of the South of France since Brigitte Bardot lit up St Tropez in the 1960s. From the annual Cannes Film Festival to ‘les pieds dans l’eau” dining at Club 55 on Pampelonne Beach, an A-list of celebrities come to party in the South of France sunshine.

The very best parties however are conducted behind closed doors, something most familiar at this country estate in St Paul de Vence. Built in the 1970s by German-born actor Curt Jürgens, star of James Bond’s “The Spy who Loved Me” the estate played a leading role in the Côte d’Azur’s thriving social scene, hosting parties with Roger Moore and other Hollywood alumni.

This Hollywood connection continued in the 1980s when the estate was bought by media mogul John Kluge, once the richest man in the USA.

Jürgens created a tasteful party house with a playful design. The swimming pool, linked to the main villa by a funicular, has a large glass window and there is an Asian theme in many rooms.

The 1.3 acre densely planted estate has three guest houses tucked into the grounds: nine bedrooms in all.

Along with its glamorous history, the estate offers wonderful Provencal living. Views from the property’s many terraces are exceptional, first to the cobbled lanes and mellow stone buildings of medieval St Paul de Vence and then on to the Mediterranean Sea. Nice airport is fifteen minutes away and beyond that, the Côte d’Azur awaits.
