_Knight Frank wins competition to develop largest eco-district in Tatarstan, Russia

Held in support of the Government of Tatarstan, over 100 teams from 19 countries took part.

The judging panel, chaired by President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, selected the Knight Frank project, ‘Ecopolis Two Forests’, as the winner at their final meeting on 7 November.

The proposed development strategy sees the transformation of the former 43rd artillery base of the Russian Defense Ministry. A residential eco-district will be built on the site of the 759-hectare facility, with full the integration of buildings in a natural landscape and the creation of a barrier-free environment.

Olga Shirokova, Director of Consulting and Analytics in Russia, said: “It’s a great honor for us to be named the winner of an international competition in which the strongest international teams of designers and urbanists took part. The new project of eco-district will transform the urban landscape of Kazan and will become an example for all cities of Russia.”
