Investment in Turkish property looks set to boom as new statistics place it ahead of Spain for the first time in over 40 years as Britons' favourite destination for vacations.
Figures from Co-op Travel show the country in south-eastern Europe lured a third more holidaymakers in 2008 than last year, reports Turkish property agent Spot Blue.
The trend is backed up by the country's Ministry of Culture and Tourism, which noted a 15 per cent tourist increase between January and May compared with the same period in 2007.
It spells good news for the holiday home market as demand for hotel accommodation in the most popular resorts reaches saturation point.
The chairman of the Mediterranean Tourism Hotels Unionsays: "Antalya hotel occupancy rates are at the highest levels. Even finding a single room is difficult."
Mark Harrop of New Turkish Properties recently told Homes Worldwide that property prices in the country rose by 40 per cent in 2007.
