The boss of a property development firm has expressed optimism following the election of Boris Johnson as London mayor.
Helical Bar chief executive Michael Slade told Property Week he was happy to see Mr Johnson win and said he was hopeful the plans to take a flexible approach over the building of affordable homes in mixed-use developments instead of the regulated quota approach of Ken Livingstone would be successful.
The creation of affordable new homes was high on the agenda of both Mr Johnson and his Labour rival, Ken Livingstone.
Mr Johnson's manifesto pledged to work with all 32 London boroughs to deliver 50,000 new affordable homes by 2011.
It also set out aims to bring 84,000 empty homes back into use and spend £130 million helping first-time buyers onto the housing ladder.
Boris Johnson unseated Ken Livingstone after a count of the second preference votes of those who had given their first preferences to other candidates such as Liberal Democrat Brian Paddick.
