There is no room for "cowboys" and inexperienced developers in the commercial property market at the moment, according to Property Executive.
Steve Georgiou, the magazine publisher's director, said he would not recommend that anybody go into commercial property development unless they possess a sound knowledge of the sector and have contacts within in.
"The people that are doing well are those that have experience under their belts and know which companies to use for the developments," he explained.
And he said advice from trustworthy sources is essential if developers want to enjoy success in the commercial property sector and avoid losing money.
His comments come after the latest UK Monthly Property Index revealed that commercial real estate returns dropped by 1.5 per cent in June.
The decline was more than twice that seen in the previous month, when returns fell by 0.7 per cent.
