Affordable housing is the most important priority for the property market in the UK in the next few years, the new chair of the Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) has stated.
Lee Shostak made the comments after being elected as the chair of the body, following the departure after six years in the role of Professor David Lock.
He said the TCPA was central to the achievement of this goal, adding: "The Association plays a central role in bringing the public, private and third sectors together in agreeing how best to meet this challenge."
Mr Shostak will bring to the role a wealth of experience in working with both the public and private sectors, TCPA chief executive Gideon Amos said.
The issue of affordability has prompted some landowners to pledge to give preferential treatment to cheaper housing.
A survey last week by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors discovered that 40 per cent of such people in the countryside would sell land for building at below market prices if the homes constructed on it are affordable.
