Proponents of a planned eco town in Cornwall have been told they must improve aspects of the plan if it is to have a chance of being built.
The Imerys China Clay Community scheme, the only one of the 15 shortlisted plans in the south-west, was one of several blueprints to be criticised this week by a panel of experts established by housing minister Caroline Flint, the BBC reports.
Questions over who "owns the vision for the town" and the adequacy of alternatives to motor transport were raised by the panel about the Cornish scheme, which would see a series of china clay pits turned into housing.
In reply Imerys said it was proposing a plan that would involve "global expertise in the innovative use of building materials", as well as renewable energy and a sustainable plan to integrate the new housing with economic developments.
Yesterday the Town and Country Planning Association called for any of the 15 plans not already included in a Development Plan to be subjected to public enquiries.
