Rural life is the preferred option for Britons, even younger ones, when it comes to choosing a place to live, a new survey has shown.
The poll by Yorkshire Bank found that 62 per cent of twenty-somethings did not believe that living in the city was essential to career progression, while 72 per cent of respondents were willing to commute for over an hour to get to their workplaces.
Such findings may cast major doubt on home building strategies that assume young professionals want to live in the heart of major cities.
However, such a factor does not apply strongly in London, with only 21 per cent of capital residents wanting to live in the countryside.
Among factors prompting people to seek rural living, 59 per cent said it would have a positive impact on their health and wellbeing.
New research by Halifax has found the best countryside location for quality of life is the Chiltern district of Buckinghamshire.
