A property expert has stated that the Portuguese Algarve region is still a safe place to invest, especially when buying near sporting facilities.
In his advice to international property investors, Nick Marr, chief executive officer of overseas property portal Homesgofast.com, said: "For the Algarve, if you are thinking about renting it out as a holiday home when you are not there and you're near a golf course, then you can't really go far wrong."
Proximity to tennis academies was also "spot-on", he commented.
Mr Marr noted that property in the Algarve was bolstered by the high number of people wanting to buy there and the accessibility provided by Faro airport.
Those looking for an alternative area to invest should look at the Silver Coast, Mr Marr suggested, which he said was fast emerging.
In 2006, tourist numbers in Portugal were tipped to rise by 300 per cent over seven years by Sunscape Properties.
